Augustus B. Woodward
August Woodward was one of the founders of modern Detroit. In fact, he laid out the new city plan in 1805 after the Great Fire. There are a couple of Mythic elements to Auggie's involvement.
- First, there are reports that in addition to taking inspiration from the plan for Washington, D.C., he spent a month "contemplating stars and planets, using their orbits as his guide". Combined with his status as a Freemason, this suggests all sorts of fun symbolic and occult designs. With any luck it might be possible to turn up diaries or other personal papers from the period which would provide more insight into what he was up to.
- Contemporary reports (complaints, really) suggest Woodward may have been putting his thumb on the scales in his own favor when property was divvied up under the new plan.
